a holiday critique

Max was only mildly curious (so it seemed) of the sparklers we lit last night. Nate bought a pack of six boxes, and not one of them was left after we lit sparkler after sparkler trying to incite some excitement in the wee one. He stared blankly, occasionally reaching out to touch what was probably blinding him... hence the blank stare. Oh, oh... which came first, the sparkler or the blank stare? See if you can tell.

The staring wore him out, so he came in for a nap with his giraffe. They stared at each other (no joke), so I had to intervene to help this kid get some shut-eye.

As far as "firsts" holidays go, this first Fourth of July went alright. Max wore festive colors and participated in the simplest of pyrotechnics. You gotta start somewhere. Next year, we'll have to give him some red, white, and blue jello (my mom's holiday tradition). Oh yeah, and we could take him to see real fireworks. Yep, that might do it.

By the way, Max turned 7 months old yesterday. We celebrated with sparklers. See above.
